State-Of-The-Art Medicine Now Heals Wounds, Close To Home

New River Medical Center now offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services to provide enhanced wound care for patients in our community. As part of New River Medical Center’s state-of-the-art Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine services, HBOT delivers advanced healing capabilities for patients suffering from a variety of non-healing wounds including bone infections, compromised skin grafts, diabetic foot ulcers, and wounds resulting from radiation damage. HBOT aids wound healing by increasing the level of oxygen to tissues in the body, which in turn promotes the body’s ability to heal itself.

“We are proud to now have Hyperbaric Medicine services to meet the growing needs of patients in our community,” said William Scheig, MD, Medical Director of New River Medical Center’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine services. “We are the sixth location in Minnesota to offer this healing service to patients. With the help of HBOT, patients with specific non-healing wounds will heal faster and possibly avoid amputation so that they can live their lives more comfortably.”

New River Medical Center’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine services provide a comfortable environment for patients to receive HBOT treatments. Under the care of a specially trained technician, patients are placed in a hyperbaric chamber where they breathe in 10 to 20 times the normal amount of pure oxygen under pressure. The pressure causes the oxygen to be absorbed into the blood stream. By increasing oxygen to the blood stream, new blood vessels form, swelling is reduced and infection is fought off to help the wound heal more effectively.
