New River Medical Center is temporarily limiting visitors in an effort to help prevent the spread of flu-like symptoms. Our hospital and extended care facilities are temporarily restricting visitors to age 16 and older for non-immediate family and no children under the age of 5. Young visitors to the Birthing Center are limited to the patient's siblings/children who are ages 5 and older after checking in at the nurses' station.
This temporary visitor restriction is in place to help provide a safe and healing environment for our patients and residents.
New River Medical Center supports the Center for Disease Control and the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines and recommendations for individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms.
The following simple but important precautions can help prevent getting the flu or spreading it to others. These precautions apply to both the seasonal flu and H1N1. Always cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Clean your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand-sanitizer solution. Limit your contact with others who may be ill. Clean your hands after shaking hands or having other close contact with others and before eating or preparing food, or touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Stay home from work or school and generally avoid going out in public if you are sick with symptoms of the flu. Get lots of rest, drink plenty of liquids, and avoid using alcohol and tobacco.
