New River Medical Center’s comprehensive care for breast health now offers digital mammography to provide women the latest diagnostic technology for breast cancer detection. The digital magnification of the breast ensures the highest image quality and provides radiologists with the ability to manipulate these images in order to zero in on areas of concern for evaluation. This new technology also reduces a patient’s exposure to radiation by delivering a 30 to 40 percent lower dose than conventional mammography.
The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive their first screening mammogram at the age of 40 if they do not have a family history of breast cancer. If there is a family history, women should be screened at the age of 30.

New River Medical Center makes it easy for women to screen for breast cancer by providing the latest technology in breast health care, close to home, and accepting self-referrals for screening mammograms. A physician’s order is not necessary to schedule a screening mammogram, but New River Medical Center does ask for the name of a physician who is to receive the radiologist report. If a screening mammogram shows an area of concern, New River Medical Center provides breast ultrasound, breast biopsy and diagnostic mammogram services.
