The Intensive Care Unit provides care for the adult patient who requires close observation due to a critical medical condition. The ICU team is experienced in critical care and works with a variety of medical disciplines to give each patient the best care possible.
The care of ICU patients is managed by a Hospitalist. A Hospitalist is a physician who is dedicated to overseeing the care of patients while they are hospitalized. Because the Hospitalist is available full-time, the physician is able to quickly respond to test results and changes in patient condition. Patients and family members also have more access to speak with the Hospitalist and ask questions about their care.
Hospitalists have a great understanding of, and experience with a variety of medical conditions and work closely with other medical specialists, including surgeons. The hospitalist’s close presence benefits patients by reducing their length of stay, increasing communication between caregivers and improving patient outcomes.
